Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Wisconsin's six Chippewa tribes want to spear about 5,000 more fish this spring than last bringing their total to more than 63,000 walleye altogether across Northern Wisconsin lakes.

Even though the tribes generally take about half the walleye they request, the DNR has to set the public walleye limit based on the tribal proposed take.

Based on that the DNR has established a one–walleye daily bag limit for anglers on the 173 lakes in northern Wisconsin. Once the spring spearing season is done the DNR expects to reduce the number of lakes with a one–bag limit.
