Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- A wanted fugitive from Minnesota was arrested in Superior on Wednesday afternoon following a scuffle with officers that left one injured.
39-year-old Todd Richard Carter had pleaded guilty to drug charges in Carlton County and failed to appear at his sentencing hearing.
A warrant was issued back in May for his arrest.
Superior Police investigators located Carter in the area of North 14th St and Elm Avenue Wednesday afternoon. They observed him enter a car and drive to the Metro Credit Union parking lot.
It's there that investigators approached him, and he attempted to place the keys back in the ignition of his vehicle and was about to flee.
A struggle ensued between Carter and the police, but Carter was still able to exit the passenger side of the car and flee on foot.
After a foot chase, officers were able to tackle Carter near the intersection of North 14th and Cedar Ave. Carter strenuously resisted the officers efforts to control him and attempted to gain control of the officers firearm.
The officer was able to retain control of his gun and after nearly three minutes of struggle, additional officers arrived and took Carter into custody.
Carter was taken to a hospital for medical assessment and treatment, and is now lodged in the Douglas County Jail.
One of the officers was treated and released for injuries sustained in the struggle.
Carter is expected to be formally charged in Douglas County on November 15 on charges of physically attacking two investigators and for attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer.
