Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- WLSSD has approved its 2014 budget with costs to customers expected to stay the same compared to 2013.
Both the solid waste line item tax and the waste water treatment costs will not increase in the coming year. This is also the 8th consecutive year that solid waste management fees will remain the same.
"We have achieved this despite the continued escalation in energy and chemical costs and the added challenge associated with flood recovery," says WLSSD Executive Director Marianne Bohren. "We’ve set a budget that reflects a careful balance between maintaining reasonable rates for our customers, improving reliability, and ensuring that both solid waste and wastewater rates remain affordable to local residents and the 17 communities and 4 major industries that we serve."
Bohren went on to say that WLSSD was also able to achieve these cost efficiencies without reducing services or compromising their facility's environmental performance.
