Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) - The major reconstruction, which will effectively close Tower Avenue from Belknap Street to North Third Street, will include a pedestrian–friendly streetscape, traffic median, landscaping and other commercial enhancements.
Businesses affected by the construction will be given "We Dig Downtown Superior Toolkits," which will help keep customers informed, and provide tips for helping businesses market themselves during construction.
Estimated total cost of the project, including additions like bike racks, and benches, is $12-$14 million.
Officials say that the final product can only mean good things for existing, and potential, businesses.
"We're already getting considerable activity of interest with regard to some existing businesses that... want to expand. Some are talking about rebuilding," said Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen.
Reconstruction is scheduled to run from mid–April to mid–October of 2013.
City officials say they will ensure that people will be well–informed of all alternate routes during this time.
