Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A porch fire in West Duluth that destroyed the home of a mother and her child, is now being investigated as arson.

An investigation by the Duluth Fire and Police Departments as well as the Fire Marshall's Office revealed that arson is the most likely cause of the fire because the event took place on an unsecured front porch and originated near the ground.

Currently there are several person's of interest in the case but no suspects.

Authorities are offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the identification of persons responsible for this fire.

You may remember the arsonist last summer that is currently still at large. Deputy fire Marshall James Reed says they do not believe this fire is related to those cases or any other recent fires.

"Last summer we had a problem with somebody lighting off buildings which were usually sheds, garages and unoccupied structures and this was an occupied structure.
This was an occupied house which is very different that what was happening last summer. So we don't believe they're related."

The 4– year old child awoke his mother and they escaped the fire just in time by using the back porch.

Although the fire was most likely intentional, The Marshall's Office says they do not believe the family is in danger.

Reed says arson prevention and crime prevention go hand in hand.
Make sure your entire house in secured. That means front porches and garages. Motion detectors are also a great arson protection tool.
