Wis. DNR complets G-Tac's revised bulk sample plan review

December 11, 2013 Updated Dec 11, 2013 at 10:13 PM CST

Hurley, Wis. (NNCNOW.com) -- The Wisconsin DNR has completed the review of Gogebic Taconite's revised bulk sampling plan.

The DNR has identified other approvals the mining company needs to obtain before proceeding with their bulk sampling plans.

G–Tac needs to get a storm water permit and file a claim of exemption from air permitting.

They also have to file tree cutting notices and reports with the county clerk and department foresters.

Once G–Tac gets those proper approvals, the company can go ahead with bulk sampling.

DNR project manager Larry Lynch says bulk sampling activity is a few months out yet.

Gogebic Taconite has proposed to mine iron ore in Ashland and Iron Counties in Wis.
