Edina, MN (NNCNOW.com) -- Due to the rate of the decreasing moose population in Minnesota, an Eden Prairie resident is starting the state's only citizen group to preserve and protect moose.
Robin Johnson is donating $1 from every cupcake sold at her bakery boutique called Sweet Retreat in Edina.
"The main reason I set up 'Save Minnesota Moose' is because this beautiful symbol of Minnesota wilderness is being direly threatened by unknown factors, and is that we need to help preserve it through creating wider awareness about the problem and doing more research to resolve it," Johnson said.
While people are urged to stop at the store on February 9, a donation kettle will be available in the boutique throughout 2013 for donations while small and larger gifts can be made online anytime.
Johnson says she has been in touch with DNR officials who have agreed to take all donations from Johnson's efforts and put them in the DNR's Wildlife Health Program's Gift Account for Moose.
Funds from the 'Save Minnesota Moose' organization will help purchase diagnostic equipment directly from manufacturers to speed the process.
