U.S. House Approves Legislation Avoiding Fiscal Cliff

January 1, 2013 Updated Jan 1, 2013 at 11:45 PM CDT

Washington, D.C. (NNCNOW.com) - President Obama praised lawmakers and Vice President Joe Biden after the US House voted 257-167 to pass Senate measure to avert most serious impacts of the so-called fiscal cliff.

The legislation is now headed to the White House to be signed by the president.

The bill provides higher taxes on upper income Americans, which the President has demanded.

Many Republicans were against the bill because because while raising taxes, it provides no net cuts in spending.
