Barnes, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The Wisconsin Department of Administration, Division of Housing, has awarded Douglas County $200,000 in funds to assist owner-occupied households and businesses that sustained damage during the Germann Road Fire back in May.

Owner-occupied households and businesses needing financial assistance to rebuild due to the fire should contact Sheldon Johnson at Northwest Regional Planning Commission at 715-635-2197 or 1-800-891-3042.

Back on May 14th, crews working on logging operations near Barnes, WI noticed smoke and flames in the area, but workers were not able to put out the fire and the blaze spread quickly.

The fire eventually grew to 8,131 acres before fire fighters were able to extinguish the blaze. The flames destroyed almost 50 structures.

The Germann Road Fire was the largest fire in Northern Wisconsin in 33 years.
