Madison, WI (NNCNOW.com) -- 28 people were killed last month on Wisconsin roads, according to preliminary statistics.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says last month tied for the fifth safest month of February in terms of traffic deaths since the end of World War II.
The safest month of February was in 2011 with 22 traffic deaths and the deadliest was in 1968 with 73 fatalities.
Traffic deaths last month were eight fewer than February 2012 and four fewer than the five-year average for the month.
With spring coming, WisDOT officials are reminding motorists to be extra careful on the road.
