Birchwood, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Authorities have recovered sixty pounds of highly explosive materials from the property of a deceased man in Washburn County.

Police were called just after 4 p.m. Monday on reports of potentially dangerous material hidden on the property on South Main Street in Birchwood.

The materials were found by the executor of the estate while searching for items to include in the estate sale. The explosives were discovered in a metal garden shed underneath the flood boards.

The Birchwood Fire Department and Police Department evacuated nearby residences and called in the Marathon/Oneida County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad to detonate the material.

The bomb squad removed the thirty 2 lb. sticks of high explosive material and safely detonated and destroyed them in a gravel pit outside of Birchwood.
