Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) - Wisconsin 7th Congressional District candidate Kelly Westlund was in Superior Wednesday to deliver 10,000 Wisconsinite signatures in support of raising the minimum wage to Representative Sean Duffy's office.
Westlund says they're a big chunk of the 60,000 signatures in all that made it on the petition, gathered from across the country.
She and a handful of supporters gathered outside Representative Duffy's Superior headquarters to call on the Congressman to support a minimum wage increase to 10 dollars and 10 cents an hour.
Westlund says too many people are struggling to make ends meet with full time employment.
"Somebody who makes $7.25 an hour (the minimum wage) brings in about $290 per week," said Westlund, "[and] after you're paying for the necessities of things, like rent and food, there's not a whole lot left over to build a really secure economic future."
Westlund, who's currently serving on the Ashland City Council, made her announcement to run for Duffy's seat two months ago.
