For those interested in taking part in Wisconsin's wolf hunting and trapping season, can begin applying for a permit beginning August 1st.
The permit application fee is $10 and applications can be purchased from license agents, through the DNR website or by phone.
For the 2012-2013 season, all wolf permits will be given by random choice in a drawing that will be held after the permit application window closes, which is August 31.
For those that were not awarded a permit in the drawing process, will be given a preference point toward future drawings.
Those that were successful in the drawing, will be awarded by letter.
Beginning with the 2013-2014 wolf hunting season, one half of available permits will be issued randomly among all permit applications and the second half will be issued through a cumulative preference point drawing.
Applicants may apply for a permit or a preference point only.
Preference points may only be awarded for hunters and trappers who wish to hunt or trap in future seasons but are not able to take part in the 2012-2013 season and want to start gathering points.
Accumulated preference points will be eliminated when an applicant is selected in the drawing to receive a permit, or if one does not submit a permit application in three consecutive years.
Accumulated preference points will also be eliminated if a hunter or trapper does not submit a permit application in three consecutive years.
The wolf hunting and trapping season runs October 15 to February 28, 2013.
