Bayfield Man Sent to Hospital After Crashing into Tree

Bayfield, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- A Bayfield man is in the hospital after he crashed his car into a tree on Highway 13 near Washburn, WI.

Yesterday, authorities received a call around 5pm about a car accident on Highway 13 and Bayview Park Road in the Township of Bayview.

When the Washburn Fire and Ambulance Departments, Ashland Paramedics and Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, they found 77 year old Donald Vold of Bayfield pinned in his car after he crashed into a tree.

Officers were able to use the "Jaw of Life" to free him. Vold was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Ashland, where he was later flown by helicopter to a hospital in Duluth. Vold sustained serious hip/pelvic injuries.

According to authorities, Vold was driving northbound on Highway 13 when his car swerved off the road and hit a tree.

The crash remains under investigation by the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office.

No update yet on Vold's medical condition.
