Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) - Members of ABATE Wisconsin and area bikers were revving up Sunday for the 6th annual Motorcycle Awareness Rally.
The event aims to raise awareness and dispel misconceptions about motorcycle safety just as the Northland biking season gets underway, and hundreds of bikers hit the road now through the summer.
ABATE Wisconsin hosted today's event, but also offers year–round advanced and beginner rider instruction, and heads road–safety campaigns for drivers of all types of vehicle.
Event organizers stress that drivers can't be too careful on the road, and that even the smallest distractions could have fatal consequences for motorcyclists.
"Distracted driving, whether it be a cellphone, or eating a jelly doughnut," said ABATE WI director Andrew Mathiassen, "the prime objective in driving a car is the act of driving."
"It makes it even more important because we also have families and we all want to go home at the end of the day," said Chair of the Motorcycle Awareness Rally Dorrie Meyer
In addition to yard–sign, billboard and in–school promotions, ABATE also offers a unique alcohol awareness campaign for motorcycle riders.
