BirkieTour Canceled Due to Poor Trail Conditions

January 17, 2013 Updated Jan 17, 2013 at 12:44 PM CDT

Cable, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Organizers of the BirkieTour have decided to cancel Saturday's race due to poor trail conditions.

Organizers say the recent one inch of new snow has not bonded to the ice base on the Birkie Trail and that the snow will be quickly sheared off, especially on downhills, exposing the solid ice trail base and creating hazardous ski conditions.

Even though light snow is falling in the region right now with more predicted into the weekend, officials say they do not expect trail conditions to improve enough in time for the BirkieTour.

All registered participants for the Tour will still receive their T-Shirts and pins. Registered participants will also receive a $10 discount on early registration for the 2014 BirkieTour.
