Madison, WI (NNCNOW.com) -- A deer has tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease in Waukesha County.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says this is the first deer that has tested positive for CWD in the county.
The deer was reported sick-looking to the DNR by a landowner in the Town of Delafield.
A portion of Waukesha County is in the existing CWD management zone, where the DNR has been performing disease surveillance to better determine its presence and prevalence.
Wildlife managers responded and collected samples for disease testing.
The sampling result does not affect the established hunting season, or change the current CWD Management Zone boundary.
However, the border of Washington county is within a 10-mile radius of the positive tested CWD deer and therefore, a baiting and feeding ban will go into effect for Washington County prior to the 2013 deer season.
