Hayward, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- A fire has left substantial damage to a wing of the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Community College in Hayward, WI.
According to the Sawyer County Record, a fire broke out in the easternmost 700 wing of the college, damaging the inner ceiling. This wing houses college Extension programs and the maintenance department.
Water and smoke has also left damage in the wing of the college.
Authorities were called to the scene around 11:45am when fire alarms in the building went off. According to college officials, maintenance crews were working in the building when the fire started. The maintenance staff made sure everyone got out of the building safely.
Fire crews removed roof panels and chopped holes in the roof to get at the fire and put out the flames.
No one was injured in this incident.
Classes were not in session at the college due to summer break.
The Lac Courte Oreilles, Hawyard and Bass Lake fire departments all responded to the scene.
