Town of Barnes (NNCNOW.com) --- A fire during a power outage in Bayfield County, Thursday, left a home a total loss.

It took fire officials 4 hours and 1,200 gallons of water to put out flames engulfing a home in the Town of Barnes.

It started around 6 a.m.

Homeowners Richard and Wendy Downey report candles were lit at the time of the fire because the power was out.

Officials believe the fire started near a patio door.

The cause is still under investigation.

The Barnes Fire and Ambulance, the Town of Drummond, the Town of Highland, and the Town of Iron River Fire Departments responded to the fire.

The Grandview board up team assisted in boarding the home up to help preserve personal property.

The Town of Barnes Highway Department and County Highway Department assisted in plowing roads to get the Fire Departments to the scene.
