Five busted in drug raid in Red Cliff, Wisconsin

Red Cliff, WI (NNCNOW.com) - Five suspects have been taken into custody in Red Cliff Wisconsin after a large amount of controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, weapons, cash, and other items were found

After months of investigation into illegal drug activity in the Red Cliff Community, two search warrants were executed.

Chief William Mertig with the Red Cliff Police Department said that since the formation of the Native American Drug and Gang Initiative, Tribal Law Enforcement has made huge gains in their fight against illegal drugs and the problems associated with them.

No names have been released in the case as charges are pending.

The Red Cliff Police department was assisted in the investigation called, "Operation Paladin" by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, Bayfield County Sheriff's Department and the United States Border Patrol.

After completion of the search warrants the Task Force members then began a search for subjects in the Community that had outstanding warrants and also began knocking on doors and talking with Community Members about the illegal drug activities in the Community.

The investigation is ongoing.
