Flood Damage Claims Filed Against City in Superior

July 25, 2012 Updated Jul 25, 2012 at 3:41 PM CST

SUPERIOR, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) - Since the flooding hit in June, the Superior city attorney says upwards of 40 city homeowners have filed legal damage claims, pointing to the city as the reason their homes were flooded.

Neighbors in one neighborhood told us many of the homes near the intersection of East 10th Street and 15th Avenue East ended up with flooded basements.

Residents pointed to a sanitary sewer cover that had been removed by city staff at 15th and Bardem Avenue as the reason for the flooded basements.

Superior's Liability Claims Committee has recently begun denying or awarding claims based on their determination that the damage was or wasn't a result of city staff negligence.
