Bayfield, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) -- A two year old child has died and three passengers suffer life threatening injuries after a car accident in Bayfield Monday afternoon.
At 1:01 p.m. on Monday, 23 year old, Chelsea N. Cadotte of Bayfield, was driving a Chevrolet Blazer on Wisconsin Highway 13 at Houghton Falls Road in Bayfield, when the car entered the ditch, overturned, and ejected four passengers riding in the car.
2 year old, Mariah R. Gordon of Bayfield, died as a result of injuries.
15 year old Erica M. Gonzalez, of Bayfield, 6 year old Carter J. Gordon, of Washburn, and 4 year old Myley S. Gordon, of Washburn, were airlifted to a hospital in Duluth for life-threatening injuries.
Cadotte is listed in fair condition.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Myley Gordon is listed in critical condition and Carter Gordon and Erica Gonzalez are listed in fair condition.
Investigation shows that seatbelts were not worn at the time of the accident.
Marian Gurnoe, who is the cousin to Cadotte, says it's been a devastating past 24 hours for Bayfield County, since everyone tends to know one another, given the relatively small size of the Bayfield, Washburn, and Red Cliff communities.
"Our community is all hurting, and sad for this, because it's such a tragedy. I don't—it just hurts. It's sad. And, you know, we can only take it day by day," said Gurnoe, who was visiting the sight of the accident to place flowers at the scene.
Assisting agencies included two City of Washburn Ambulances, two City of Bayfield Ambulances, two City of Ashland Ambulances, and the Bayfield County Sheriff's Department.
The Wisconsin State Patrol and the Bayfield County Sheriff's Department are investigating the accident.
