Ashland, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) - A house fire in Ashland had firefighters working late. The blaze started at a home located at 208 Willis Ave.

Firefighters were called to this home just after 3 a.m after the family called 911.

When crews arrived, the Ashland Police Department was already getting the family out. The homeowner, David Owen, along with his wife, two children, and mother in-law- were all able to escape.

An Ashland Firefighter and Owen's wife were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

To make matters worse, Owen was one of 28 teachers in the Ashland School District to have just received a preliminary lay-off notice. The family is thanking teachers at the school for coming together so quickly to help them.

The cause of fire is still under investigation.

Damage to the home are estimated at around $25,000.
