Elderly Hurley Man Killed in Police Shootout

Hurley, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) - An 85-year-old Hurley man is dead following a shooting with police.

Police responded to Southgate Village Friday morning at 8:40 a.m. for a report of a man with a gun.

The suspect retreated to his apartment and refused to speak with police. The Gogebic/IRon County area SWAT team was activated along with officers from neighboring agencies from Wisconsin and Michigan.

Authorities discovered the man was in possession of multiple firearms.

Nearby residents have been relocated while the matter is under investigation.
