Hurley, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- A Hurley, WI man has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental illness after he was accused of trying to cut off his ex-girlfriend's head with a camp saw.
35 year old Sylvester J. Works is charged with 1st degree intentional homicide, aggravated battery, mayhem, exposing a child to harmful material and burglary while committing a battery of a person.
According to the Ashland Daily Press, Works is accused of a brutal attack on Jenilee M. Scribner of Ashland with a folding camp saw blade back in March.
According to an emergency room doctor, the saw came within millimeters of severing the woman's jugular vein.
Works is being held on a $50,000 bond in connection with his five felony charges.
