March 5, 2013 Updated Mar 5, 2013 at 10:30 AM CST

Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) -- An inmate at the Douglas County Jail suffered a medical event and died as a result on March 1.

Authorities say 37-year-old Clifton G. Walker said he was not feeling well to other inmates and was going to lie down.

He was later found to be in distress, paramedics were called and Corrections Officers began first aid.

Walker then stopped breathing and CPR was performed until paramedics arrived.

Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and Walker was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was performed on March 2 and preliminary results show massive internal bleeding due to a perforated ulcer that ruptured an artery in the stomach lining.

The incident remains under investigation.
