Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) -- A fake cop incident from January 14th is determined to be unfounded, the Superior Police say.
Authorities received a report of an impersonation of an officer incident.
The reporting party claimed to have been stopped by the man, who had said he was a member of the Superior Police Department.
The person said they were allowed to leave after providing vehicle registration and proof of insurance.
It was determined that no official law enforcement agency was responsible for the alleged traffic stop so the investigation into the incident remains open.
Video surveillance footage contradicts the original report to the police and clearly indicates that no such traffic stop ever occurred, authorities say.
Providing false information to the Police can be a crime in the State of Wisconsin.
The matter has been referred to the District Attorney's Office for consideration of charges.
