Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Organizers expect more than 15,000 spectators at this years, 11th annual Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival on Barkers Island in Superior.
Saturday morning's events kicked off at 7 a.m. with a pancake breakfast.
Then, the rhythm of the drums marked the start of the races at 8.
There's lots of entertainment for those not racing including, magic shows, craft fairs, a rose petal ceremony, live music and food.
Money raised at the Festival helps the Twin Ports Rotary Clubs and the Essentia Health Foundation.
With nearly 60 races and 105 teams registered, more than 2,000 people are expected to compete.
We caught up with the Dragon Diva's of St. Paul just before they raced this afternoon.
"We try to stay focused, we get some adrenaline going," Suzette Henschell, of Dragon Diva's said. "This is a great festival, we come every year."
The awards and closing ceremony begins at 7 p.m.
