Less bears: Oak Island dock area has reopened

August 5, 2014 Updated Aug 5, 2014 at 11:35 AM CST

Bayfield, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore re–opened the dock area of Oak Island on August 4th.

The dock had been closed since July 23 because there had been bear activity in the area.

The bear activity has decreased, but people are still being warned to not leave foods or things with odors similar to food left unattended.

This includes clothes that have food odors on them, and things like toothpaste and deodorant. There are lockers available at every campsite to keep the bears away from food.
