Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com)--- The city of Superior is stepping up to meet the demand for more senior housing.

City officials broke ground today on an new senior housing expansion at the Lighthouse of Superior Senior Assisted Living Facility.

32 new apartments with a choice of studio, one bedroom or two bedrooms will be added on to the complex.

In addition, amenities such as a warm water therapy pool, occupational therapy, a bistro restaurant and an art room will be included.

The senior population in the Twin Ports is booming, and officials say they are working to keep up with the demand.

"There's a need for this in Superior and Duluth. There's more seniors that would like to live someplace with options and services available and there is no place for them to go," said Colleen Morgan, Executive Director at Lighthouse of Superior.

The apartments should be open this Fall.
