Madison, WI (NNCNOW.com) - In May, 48 people died in crashes on Wisconsin roadways, tying for the third safest May in terms of traffic deaths since the end of World War Two, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
2013 saw a safer year with 16 fewer traffic fatalities.
2014 saw one fewer fatality than the five-year average for the month of May.
The Memorial Day weekend accounted for eleven of the 48 fatalities in May.
In 2013, eight people died during the holiday weekend.
