Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - There’s a one of a kind ice – cross track at Mont du Lac, south of Duluth, which hosted its first downhill race on the track Saturday.

Nearly 70 competitors from all across the U.S. and Canada came to compete in the ice – cross event. This 350 meter track takes only 40 seconds to complete.

Reed Whiting said this type of race isn't for your average athlete.

"It's a unique mixture of a lot of athletic talents; obviously hockey, downhill skiing, freestyle skiing, aggressive rollerblading and anything else extreme," said Whiting, standing in the bitter temperatures. "You can't have fear on this course. You just have to give it."

Organizers plan to make the track available to the public next season.
