One Dead, Two Injured in Two-Car Crash in Bayfield County

(Northland's NewsCenter) --- One person is dead and two others remain injured after a two-car crash in Bayfield County Saturday afternoon.

According to the Bayfield County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle heading northbound on Highway 63 around 3:45, lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center line and collided with a southbound vehicle.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, 64-year-old, James Collins, from Barrie, Ontario, died at the scene.

Emergency crews had to extricate three injured people from the southbound vehicle.

The driver, 21-year-old, Cody Weiss, from Mason, Wis., and passenger, 22-year-old, Tamra Wood, of Ashland , were taken to a hospital in Ashland and then to hospitals in Duluth.

Both Weiss and Wood required extracation from their vehicle due to vehicle damage.

Weiss' and Wood's medical conditions are unknown at this time.

Bayfield County Deputies responded with Mason, Great Divide, and Ashland Ambulance Services.

Grand View, Drummond, and Namakagon Fire Departments also responded.

Authorities also requested medical helicopters, but none were available at the time of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.
