Washburn County, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- One person is dead following a seven car pile-up in Washburn County.

Washburn County authorities received a call just before 7 a.m. Monday of a multiple vehicle accident on State Highway 63.

Seven vehicles were involved in the accident, including a semi and trailer.

54-year-old Michael Shermo of Springbrook, Wisconsin was trapped in his car after rear-ending the semi truck. He was extricated from the vehicle by Hayward Fire and life-flighted to Essentia Health St. Mary's Duluth. He died of his injuries at the hospital shortly after arrival.

All people involved in the accident were wearing seat belts and there were no other injuries reported.

Authorities believe that road conditions, the sun in driver's eyes and driver's actions all attributed to this accident, but it still remains under investigation by the Washburn County Sheriff Office.

Washburn County Deputies, Sawyer County Deputies, Town of Hayward Police, City of Hayward Police, Hayward Fire and ambulance and Life Link Medical helicopter all responded to the scene.
