Waukesha, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The family of the 12–year–old Wisconsin victim who was stabbed nearly twenty times by classmates has a message for the nation, "Our girl's a fighter."

They are thankful she is alive, and now able to walk the hospital halls with her Dad without machines or tubes. Doctors also say the stabbings missed an artery by just one millimeter.

According to police, one of the 12–year–old suspects carried a knife in her waistband; they pretended to play hide and seek with the victim and then tackled her, followed by brutally stabbing her.

The parents say their daughter gets overwhelmed very easily since the incident.

“We appreciate your patience, love and support as we too are stunned and saddened by this tragedy,” the family said on their Hearts for Healing website.

The family has set up a page to raise money for their daughter's medical care, which can be found by clicking here.

The family asks that people honor their request to allow their to daughter remain anonymous.
