Brule, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) - About 60 people voiced pride and passion during a public meeting Thursday night focusing on the future of the Brule Fish Hatchery.

The hatchery is under financial scrutiny following an engineering study by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

The facility, built in 1927, needs $10.5 million dollars in upgrades to meet current standards. The DNR reiterates no decision has been finalized yet.

Brule Hatchery produces between 450,000 and 500,000 trout annually that are stocked into 21 counties in the Northern and Northeast region of Wisconsin.

Officials plan to use comments voiced Thursday to help in deciding the future of the hatchery.
