Waukesha, WI (NBCNEWS) --- Two 12-year–old girls accused of stabbing their classmate 19 times were in a Waukesha, Wis., courtroom Wednesday morning.

Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier are charged with trying to kill a classmate in an attempt to please a mythological creature known as Slenderman.

The attorney for one of the girls submitted a doctor's report stating the girl is not mentally competent to proceed. The judge approved the state's request for their own examination of the girl.

The attorney for the other defendant asked for another hearing in 30 days to determine when a preliminary hearing should be held.

Both hearings will be held on August 1st, 2014.

A Wisconsin law requires attempted homicide cases begin in adult court if the suspect is at least 10-years-old.
