(NNCNOW.com) --- The Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa has just released an update to its Lake Superior barrel retrieval mission. The retrieval occurred in September. The update says 22 barrels that had previously been brought up for examination had to be dumped back into the lake because of lack of proper permits or equipment to deal with the barrel contents. Those contents have now been properly disposed of and nothing found so far has been toxic. The barrels contained Cold War vintage munitions which were still potentially volatile. The contents were destroyed at Veolia Environmental facilities in Menominee Falls, Wisconsin and in Sauget, Illinois.
