Iron River, WI (NNCNOW.com) - A retired Wisconsin police chief is being remembered as a brave man who unselfishly helped people.

The Iron River Police Department says its former Chief, Richard Zens, died of a heart attack after stopping to help put out a car fire and help those who were injured.

The incident happened Saturday in Jackson County Wisconsin.

Zens had a 39 year career in law enforcement, 17 of those in Iron River.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
