ASHLAND COUNTY, WI (Northland's Newscenter) ---Tonight's weather took a toll on US HWY 2 near Ashland County.

US HWY 2 between Sandborn Avenue and State Highway 13 north has been closed and declared impassable by the Ashland County Highway Department.

Drivers are asked to use State Highway 137 as a detour until further notice.

State Highway 112 also appears to be blocked at this hour and will be closed until further notice.

Motorists in the area are advised to use extra caution on the roads or avoid them if possible.
However, if you must drive, officials say it's important to keep others informed of your travel plans, have your cell phone's fully charged, make sure the gas tank is full and extra food and warm clothing are also in the vehicle.

In the event a vehicle does break down, run its engine and heater for short intervals to stay warm, but be sure to crack a window to avoid carbon monoxide build up.
