Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com)-- Ninety-five soldiers from the Wisconsin Army National Guard's 950th Engineer Company based out of Superior will be deploying to Afghanistan sometime this fall.

The guard unit will deploy to eastern Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Resolute Support.

The troops will conduct route clearance operations to find and defeat improvised explosive devices, or IED's on the regions main supply routes.

The unit will be in Afghanistan during the much anticipated transition from Operation Enduring Freedom to the NATO-led Operation Resolute Support.

The 950th's operations will be critical, since U.S. troops and equipment will be moving out of Afghanistan by the end of the year.

The deployment will be the unit's first to Afghanistan.

It deployed previously to Iraq in 2003 and 2010.

The Wisconsin National Guard is planning a sendoff ceremony for the unit, but details have not yet been released.

The 950th also has a detachment in Spooner.
