Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- A 47 year old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit and run that occurred on Friday, August 17th.
Authorities located the suspected hit and run vehicle in St. Louis County on Sunday, August 19th. Upon further investigation, authorities were able to identify the suspected hit and run driver and arrest him.
The suspect is being held at the Douglas County Jail, pending formal charges of a Hit and Run Involving a Death, which is a felony in Wisconsin.
According to Wisconsin law, if the suspect is found guilty of the charge of hit and run involving a death, he could spend up to 25 years behind bars or a $100,000 dollar fine or both.
According to Superior Police, the suspect in the hit and run accident is expected to make an initial court appearance later today.
On Friday, Superior Police responded to a hit and run accident at the intersection of Broadway and Hughitt that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The victim, 61 year old Eugene David Renko of Superior, WI died due to his injuries.
According to witnesses, the driver did not stop after hitting the pedestrian, and continued westbound on Broadway before turning southbound onto Banks Avenue.
This incident remains under investigation.
