Superior, WI (Northland’s NewsCenter) --- Wisconsin U.S. Senate candidate Tommy Thompson made a stop in Superior on his campaign trail.

The former Wisconsin Governor Thompson and his Democratic Opponent, Representative Tammy Baldwin are seeking the seat vacated by retiring Senator Herb Kohl.

Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen introduced Thompson at Aces on 29th, saying the state has never seen more growth in jobs and public infrastructure than during Thompson's tenure as Governor.

Thompson spoke to voters about the U.S. budget and gave examples of why he believes Baldwin will raise taxes, create job killing regulations and a bigger government.

As Senator, Thompson says he will work to repeal ObamaCare and cut government spending.

He says he's committed to growing the state of Wisconsin and says he's already hit the ground running.

"I'm running hard, I'm all over this state,” Thompson said. “I love Superior and Douglas County. The people are hearty, their beautiful, intelligent, their hardworking and I want to be a part of it."

Thompson is stopping in several towns across north western Wisconsin this weekend.
