Madison, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) -- Two Superior Elementary Schools have received honors at the State Capitol.

State Representative Nick Milroy (D-South Range) joined Northern Lights Elementary and Lake Superior Elementary as they received Wisconsin School of Recognition honors by the State Department of Public Instruction.

As an addition to the award, each school was given $1,000 to use on any school-related activity.

To be eligible for the honor, the school must rank in the top quartile for student poverty rates for its school type.

Student achievement in reading and math must rank higher than the state average for schools that coincide with size.

All award-winning schools receive federal Title I funding to serve to economically disadvantaged children.

"The dedication and wuality of our teachers and staff is not recognized often enough," said Milroy. "This award and financial contribution is the least we can do to show our appreciation to those teachers and staff that educate and inspire our children. It's reassuring to know we have highly qualified teachers in the district that will ensure a bright future for our children."
