Ashland, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The two Democratic candidates running for the 74th Assembly seat faced off in Ashland.

The two Democratic candidates are Beth Meyers of Bayfield and Graham Garfield of Mason.

The 74th Assembly District includes Bayfield, Ashland, Iron and part of Sawyer counties.

The topics in their debates centered around broadband and technology improvements, to conversations about raising the minimum wage, and state mining laws.

"The problem is not can we mine this area or not,” Graham Garfield said. “The problem is the fact that the mining law is so irresponsible at this point it doesn't even vaguely reflect the mining law we had."

"We all have cars and there's salt on our table that's mined,” Beth Meyers said. “Most people support responsible mining. I do not believe the mining law that we have today is responsible, and I would not be able to support it."

Jamey Francis of Hurley is the lone Republican in this race.
