Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - With three major construction projects on I 35, and at least one on Hwy 53, travelers should be expecting some slow–moving traffic until late this evening.
Heading south, on I 35, drivers can expect construction in between Duluth and Cloquet, around Moose Lake, and in between Sandstone and Pine City.
Heading north, on 53, a bridge replacement project at the intersection of Hwy 33 and Hwy 53 will have traffic slowed due to a three way stop.
Duane Hill, of MNDoT, says it's crucial that drivers recognize the modified speeds in construction zones, as law enforcement will be stepping it up this weekend.
"...and, they will be doing extra enforcement in those work zones, so be sure that you follow the speed limits as you travel through these construction projects," said Hill.
Surprisingly, gas prices, which are typically at their peak right now, haven't risen in two weeks, which will bring even more drivers out this weekend than last year.
A 10 mile, gravel road detour on highway one, south of Ely, was washed out in areas due to Thursday's flood like conditions, washouts were also reported along the south shore in Wisconsin. So, if you are heading to the cabin, keep an eye out for road damage ahead.
