Wisconsin Sees 6% Higher Road Deaths in 2012

Madison, WI (NNCNOW.com) -- Wisconsin ended 2012 with 601 traffic deaths, which was 36 more, or 6% higher than 2011, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Preliminary statistics show traffic fatalities in the state last year ended four consecutive years of fewer than 600 annual traffic deaths.

Before the 2008-2011 period, the last time Wisconsin saw fewer than 600 traffic fatalities for four years in a row was from 1924 to 1927.

The traffic fatality total accounted for 101 motorcyclists, 13 motorcycle passengers, 44 pedestrians and 10 bicyclists.

In addition, there was a 37% increase in fatalities for passengers in automobiles and light trucks.
