Woman dies after striking deer with motorcycle

Bell, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) -- A Mercer, Wisconsin area woman is dead after the motorcycle she was driving struck a deer.

On Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., the Bayfield County Sheriff's Office received a report of a motorcycle accident on County Highway C of the Valhalla Recreation Area in the town of Bell.

The 49 year old woman was traveling south on County Highway C with several other motorcyclists when she hit the deer.

She was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Ashland then flown to St. Mary's in Duluth where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The name of the woman is being withheld pending notification of family.

The Bayfield County Sheriff's Office is completing the crash investigation.
