Madison, WI (Northlands NewsCenter)
-- It's been 27 years and it's still going strong. It's an annual effort to bring some awareness to the hundreds of miles that separate Northwest Wisconsin and the capital city.

We are taking about Superior days a collaborate effort to lobby lawmakers and attract attention to the 8 counties of the Northland.

Stomping down the steps of Madison's elaborate capital building are what first appears to be typical tourists but this group is on a mission...

They are lobbyists on behalf of Northwestern Wisconsin.

Eight Counties that lay stranded hundreds of miles from the pungent political perfume that fills the air in Madison.

"Legislators are down here trying to do their work but like anybody else they might be unfamiliar with all parts of the state"

So on the 27th Annual Superior Days, people young and old are pushing education, mining, veterans programs.

A gambit that even first timers are embracing.

"The people up here; they do have a voice they are more spread out and there is not as many but they come together and they show that they're here"

"It's really amazing that's the thing about Superior Days that you can see a student from Superior Senior High School mingling with a different community"

The event runs into tomorrow where lawmakers will be met by the lobbyists bright and early.
