Ashland, WI (NNCNOW.com)-- Children readied their tackle boxes and baited their fishing rods in Ashland Saturday for the 67th Annual Bud Williams Fishing Contest.

The North Wisconsin Rod and Gun Club teamed up with local businesses to provide prizes to children in attendance.

The club also strives to educate children on the variety of invasive species in Wisconsin lakes.

Scot Cameron says the fishing contest is exciting for all kids and gives them valuable appreciation for outdoor activities.

"Years ago I had a young gal out there," said Cameron. "She was a nine-year-old girl and there was a couple of 13 year old boys with, and she way out fished them with a 20 inch bass - with a Snoopy poll. So it doesn't matter what you have, as long as you have some line - come on down and fish."

Cameron says the North Wisconsin Rod and Gun Club has been active for one hundred years and averages crowds of two hundred every year at their family event.
